NIGHT LIGHTS CLASSES
- Be a Rock Star--Rock/Blues Guitar 101
Taught by Scott Colborn, guitar teacher at Dietze Music Briarhurst and Bright Lights teacher.
So you want to play guitar? Whether you have music experience or not, this class is going to be on the top of the charts as you learn beginning skills on a guitar provided by Dietze Music. Rock and blues are the main focus, and each student will receive a packet with famous guitar riffs, power chords and beginning basic guitar info to get you started. Learn about the electric guitar, stomp boxes, amps, speakers, etc. More importantly, you’ll play the guitar that night! Rock on! Sponsored by Northwestern Mutual Financial. Limit: 20 students
- Create Jewelry: Glitz & Glamour
Taught by Lynette Fast and Jayne Beer, Lincoln artists. Lynette is a Bright Lights teacher.
Learn the basics of wire and bead jewelry creation: end loops, ear wires, chain, jump rings, clasps, and wire wrap stones or beads. All equipment and materials will be provided. If you have a particular outfit to match, bring some special beads or stones you would like to use. You’ll leave with some jewelry ready to wear! Sponsored by Ellen High, Realtor, Home Real Estate. Taught by Sara Yendra, UNL Academic Advisor for Environmental Studies and Bright Lights teacher; and Greg Cooper, Southwest High School forensic science teacher.
The vintage 1775 sherry has completely vanished, so unfortunately it cannot be served at the event. Join the CSI team to collect and examine the evidence to determine which of the shady suspects swiped the sherry. Learn to decipher the loops and whorls of your fingerprints, examine strands of hair, and identify fibers as you solve The Case of the Missing Sherry. Sponsored by BryanLGH Medical Center. Learn the basics to social dance: foxtrot, merengue, and swing as well as social etiquette, respect for your partner and teamwork! Let’s turn a plain, boring piece of furniture into a masterpiece by adding creative designs to it. Lines! Colors! Shapes! Patterns! Your ideas will change this functional piece into a "Funkshonal" work of art that will, when it’s finished, be donated to a charitable organization to brighten their space for years to come! Taught by Carol Moravec, Bright Lights teacher, and Cindy Karel, both SEHS Science teachers, and Anne K. Heineman, Director of Library Services, BryanLGH College of Health Sciences.
February is Heart Awareness Month. Immerse yourself in science as you rotate through three stations. You will learn the basics about the structures of the heart by dissecting and observing the major vessels of the heart that keeps us ticking. Extract your DNA and wear it home by making your own DNA necklace. Lastly, learn to do computer research on Med Line Plus, a health database with medical information on diseases.
