The temperature may be dropping, the leaves may be changing and our Saturdays may be devoted to Husker football. But here at Bright Lights, we are already thinking about the sunshine and warm summer days of 2025!
Our amazing teachers are at the core of what we do every summer. As a Bright Lights teacher, you get to teach a subject that interests you and creates an immersive experience for campers as they learn through hands-on experiences. Some teachers come to us with an idea of their own for a camp when applying, while others prefer to adopt a camp and personalize it with their own knowledge and enthusiasm. We can also provide a list of possible themes as a starting point for you to create your own curriculum. The best part of it all – you are teaching something you love and the campers are just as interested in and excited to learn about!
One of the unique parts about Bright Lights is that our teachers come from a variety of backgrounds. While many of our teachers are from the field of education, we do not require a teaching certificate. We also have instructors who are members of the community or are retired professionals with a passion they want to share with the next generation. What we are really looking for are individuals who enjoy working with campers in grades kindergarten through eighth grade (you get to pick!), are passionate about a topic, are great communicators, and can plan challenging and engaging activities in the classroom. You can choose when you teach based on your schedule, and whether your camp is a half-day morning session (9:00 am – 12:00 pm), an afternoon session (1:00 pm – 4:00 pm) or a full-day camp. You can even co-teach with a friend if you’d like!
New Bright Lights teachers generally teach one camp during their first summer and receive a stipend for attending a required orientation meeting held in April. Teachers are paid a competitive rate to teach our half-day or full-day camps. Bright Lights pays for materials and supplies, and bonuses are available after you have taught for us for one year.
Summer 2025 teacher applications are now being accepted!
