Be a Camp Assistant this Summer!

by Jodi Fuson

Go on a learning adventure this summer as a Camp Assistant! More than 100 teens grew last summer while planted in the fun and friendly environment that we call Bright Lights Summer Learning Adventures.

At Bright Lights camps, volunteers find a place to belong, gain confidence and have fun. Here’s what some of last summer’s Camp Assistants (or CAs as we call them) said about their volunteer experience:

  • “Being a camp assistant is my favorite part of the summer, and I look forward to it every year. The teachers and other staff are always amazing and so kind!”
  • “It was a very fun experience. It was an easy way to get my service hours done for school and it was so fun learning with the kids and learning new things for myself as well.”
  • “It was very enjoyable! The classes are so fun, and the kids are very engaged. The teachers truly care about what they teach, and it shows!”

The ideal Camp Assistant is mature and motivated, with a desire to positively impact Bright Lights campers in grades K-8. This year, we are recruiting 150 qualified volunteers in grades 8 and up. These volunteers support teachers during our five weeks of programming during June and early July. Camps are held primarily at Roper Elementary, 2323 S. Coddington Ave.

Being a Camp Assistant allows for lots of flexibility, with many volunteers committing to just one weeklong, half-day or full-day camp. Applicants can indicate their availability, as well as camps or topics that interest them.

The Camp Assistant application opens in less than two months. In the meantime, watch for the Bright Lights Camp Schedule and camp descriptions coming in early February at BrightLights.org. Then get ready to visit the Camp Assistant page on Saturday, March 7, 2026, to apply.

For more information about being a Camp Assistant, visit  BrightLights.org/Camp-Assistants, and be sure to follow us on Instagram and/or Facebook . You can also email campassist@brightlights.org with any questions.
