Be a Camp Assistant this Summer!

by Jodi Fuson

Is your child too old to take a Bright Lights camp this summer? Would they like to participate in Bright Lights in a new role? Are they mature and motivated and have a desire to make a positive impact on Bright Lights campers grades K-8?

If the answer is “Yes” to these questions, we have just the opportunity for your teen (completed grades 8-12) – volunteering as a Camp Assistant!

Each year Bright Lights seeks 150 Camp Assistant volunteers to support teachers during its five weeks of camps in June and early July. Most camps are half day and held at Roper Elementary, 2323 S. Coddington Ave., with others held at community sites.

Being a Camp Assistant allows for lots of flexibility. Most Camp Assistants volunteer one week that works around their family’s summer schedule. At registration time, applicants can indicate their availability, as well as camps or topics that interest them.

A helpful tool for finding a possible camp match is the Camp Schedule, which lists camp dates, times, locations and descriptions. Watch BrightLights.org for that to be posted in the next couple of weeks. Then get ready to register to volunteer as a Camp Assistant on March 9, 2024. Be sure to watch this video to see some of the fun experiences our Camp Assistants have had with Bright Lights.
