Fall Into a Great Summer Teaching Opportunity

by Lindsey Murrish

The leaves are changing, football is on TV, there are pumpkins everywhere and at Bright Lights, the planning for summer fun is just beginning. Our amazing teachers are at the core of what we do every summer. They are the ones who bring the learning to life with hands-on, engaging experiences as they share topics that are of high interest to them, and use that knowledge and passion to create half-day or full-day adventures for campers.

As a Bright Lights teacher, you get to teach a subject that interests you and allows an immersive experience for campers as they learn through hands-on experiences. Some teachers come to us with an idea of their own for a camp when applying, while others prefer to adopt a camp and personalize it with their own knowledge and enthusiasm. We can also provide a list of possible themes as a starting point for you to create your own curriculum. The best part of it all – you are teaching something you love and the campers are just as interested and excited to learn.

One of the unique parts about Bright Lights is that our teachers come from a variety of backgrounds. While many of our teachers are from the field of education, we do not require a teaching certificate. We have many instructors who are members of the community or are retired professionals with a passion they want to share with the next generation. We are looking for individuals who enjoy working with campers in grades kindergarten through eighth grade (you get to pick!), are passionate about a topic, and can provide challenging and engaging activities in the classroom. You can choose when you teach based on your schedule and whether your camp is a half-day morning session (9:00 am – 12:00 pm) or afternoon session (1:00 pm – 4:00 pm). You can even co-teach with a friend if you’d like!

New Bright Lights teachers generally teach one camp during their first summer and receive a stipend for attending a required orientation meeting held in April.  Teachers are paid to teach each half-day or full-day camp with compensation ranging from $485-$535, based on the number of campers enrolled. Bright Lights also pays for materials and supplies. Plus we have bonuses available after you have taught for Bright Lights for one year.

Here’s what a couple of our teachers had to say about their Bright Lights experience.

  • “The smile on each child’s face at the end of a Bright Lights class speaks more than any words can describe.”
  • “I feel like this is the type of teaching I thought I would get to do when I was in college preparing for a teaching career. This program has rejuvenated me and I’ll be stepping back into my classroom in the fall much more ready to go after having such a great experience with Bright Lights.”

Registration is now open!
