Holiday Time

by Renee Ford

When thinking about the holiday season, it seems to me that it all boils down to one word: time.

  • For families who are running from one activity to another, and from one store to the next, it can feel like December has less time (both hours and days) than other months.
  • For people who are struggling or missing loved ones, time might feel like something to be endured and wished away.
  • For children who are so excited for holiday break and presents and all the other fun things that come with the season, time feels like it’s crawling. Is the clock actually going backward?

During the holidays, I am especially grateful for the time I get to spend with my family. I am also grateful for the time I spend with creative coworkers and teachers to develop enriching summer camps. And I’m grateful for the time that our board members and camp assistants donate to the program to help us achieve our mission.

Giving the gift of time through an experience, like attending a Bright Lights camp, is a great way to encourage the young people in your life to try new things. You can purchase a gift certificate to help them go to camp this summer, and then look over the fun topics when our schedule is posted online in February. Registration will open March 1, 2025.

However you choose to spend your time this holiday season, I hope you can do it with intention and purpose. From all of us at Bright Lights, happy holidays!
