Let’s Celebrate

by Renee Ford

We flip the calendar to fall, and in doing so, reflect on our 37th summer of offering nearly 100 hands-on camps to over 1,000 students in grades K-8. Highlights of the summer include:

  • The return of more than 60 Japanese students from Senshu Matsudo Junior High (their annual visit having been put on pause since 2020).
  • A variety of camps thanks in part to partnerships with entities like The Bay, Makit Takit, Southeast Community College, UNL and LUXE Dance. That variety is what gives students different experiences each summer and allows them to explore interests, with the outcome often being new hobbies, areas of study or career interest.
  • Awarding nearly $27,000 in scholarships thanks to the generosity of individuals, foundations and corporations who believe in our mission.
  • Happy students who came to Bright Lights for the first time and found passionate teachers, new friends and a caring staff to help them have fun while learning.

It was such a fun summer! And we have already begun planning for Summer 2024. So if you have an idea for a camp, please send an email to info@brightlights.org— we’d love to hear it!
