Star City Leaders

By Dylan Kitchen, Director of Programming and Youth Engagement, Leadership Lincoln

Star City Leaders (Camp #142) is a new Bright Lights camp designed to help 8th graders explore leadership by engaging directly with the community around them. Throughout the week, students dive into five different sectors of Lincoln: Arts, Government, Business, Media and Health. Each day offers a new theme, hands-on activities and opportunities to meet people who help shape our city. Campers hear from local leaders, participate in interactive leadership development exercises and discover how their strengths can make a difference in their schools and neighborhoods.

This camp also serves as a natural introduction to Youth Leadership Lincoln, a yearlong leadership program for high school sophomores. Youth Leadership Lincoln brings students together from across the city to explore Lincoln through monthly full-day seminars, community conversations and movement-based activities that build confidence, curiosity and connection. Students learn about local government, nonprofits, business, the arts, the health sector, public safety and other key parts of the community. They also develop communication and collaboration skills that help them grow as leaders and community members.

Star City Leaders (June 1-5 from 9 AM-12 PM) camp gives middle schoolers an early look at that experience. By exploring different sectors of the community and practicing leadership in a supportive and engaging environment, campers gain a foundation that can make the transition into Youth Leadership Lincoln even more meaningful. Whether students are already interested in leadership or simply curious about how their city works, this camp offers a fun and inspiring way to learn, connect, and grow.
